The last ADA conference was in November 2019. So this year’s conference (3-4th April 2022) was eagerly awaited by 400 delegates, all keen to catch up, and learn more about the industry. There was a mix of new Distilleries and current ADA members, all keen to learn and socialise. Older members we keen to help younger members with answers and guidance, so there was plenty of conversation.
The focus of this conference was on Safety (delegates heard about the fire at one distillery and a new support method for putting safety first). Other topics were: Scaling up Business for Success, Marketing for Local and Overseas, Sales (Retail and Hospitality), Tax – new rules and allowances. There was something for everyone to learn.
Twenty suppliers were allowed to have stands in the venue, which allowed Distillers/Owners/Marketing to ask questions and find out further information.
IMCD Australia represented Lallemand Distilling for yeasts, nutrients, enzymes and bacteria, and gave out brochures and give-aways, which were well received. Rum and Whisky were the two focused spirits, certainly amongst the enquiries from the new Distilleries.
A Social night was enjoyed by all at Starward Distillery, with Whisky and Tacos. The Gala Dinner night was very special, celebrating 30 years of whisky in Australia. Many distilleries donated a sample their whisky for a Special Blend to represent “Australian Whisky” over 30 years. All delegates took home a sample of the special blend.
For the first time, there were four inductees into the ADA “Hall of Fame”. Notable Distillers making a great contribution to the Australian Distilling scene.
We look forward visiting all our new contacts and customers in the new future to discuss which Lallemand products can enrich their distilled products.
